requiem
by bebu ini feel the need to update the ending to my mother's story.. after her surgery last september, when no tumor was found, she went home to enjoy happy visits from family (constantly), recovery, and two new kittens.
one month of happiness at her home, which she had designed herself 20 years ago.
my parents were reading and preparing her for living with ms, which was her new diagnosis.. .

My Blog...
by tall penguin ini started writing a blog just before christmas.
it's not specifically about being a jw but it does address that along with what it's like to leave and have to rebuild your life and let go of illusions.
it's really about my ongoing thoughts.

And spread the word. Maybe I'll be a famous penguin one day.

Are JW kids allowed to be kids?
by tall penguin ini had a memory come up today.
i recall there was a time when kids were allowed to read the subheadings at the watchtower study.
they cut that out because they wanted kids to participate in the same way as the adults, by answering the questions for the paragraphs.

Ty, your post really hit home.
I've felt sad today thinking of the little girl I never got to be. And thinking of all the kids I left behind in the org. I miss them dearly.

I had a memory come up today. I recall there was a time when kids were allowed to read the subheadings at the Watchtower study. They cut that out because they wanted kids to participate in the same way as the adults, by answering the questions for the paragraphs.
And I recall when they used to have a special kids version of the written review where it was geared to stuff from "My Book of Bible Stories". Again, they phased that out, not wanting the kids to have any special treatment.
And then there's the obvious non-separation of kids and adults at the hall. Other religions have special classes for kids. Not the JWs. JW kids have to learn at the same level as the adults and listen to adult topics.
Not to mention that kids can be subject to a judicial committee and be held accountable for very normal kid things. But they're tried as adults, and some are shunned as well. Kids are expected to behave like adults. There's a lot of pressure on JW kids.
I never felt like I was allowed to be a kid as a JW. I always felt like I had to be a mini-adult. Did you feel that way?

Did you ever get one of these?
by purplesofa ini was looking for something today and ran across this list.
a po passed these out in service meeting....many years ago.
(you can tell as no mention of internet is there) i do remember seeing this and feeling overwhelmed just reading it.

Why don't JW friends come over and say hello?
by JH ini always wondered why jw's didn't stop by to say hello, just to encourage or by friendship?.
but if i showed up at the hall, after many months, they would be happy to see me, and would come to talk to me, and ask what,s going on in my life as if they were really interested in me.
so, if they were happy to see me at the hall, why wouldn't they be happy showing up at my place too.. why is it that only the elders come over to see me once in a blue moon?.

I was fortunate in the last hall I was in before I DA'd I had many friends who would call me or visit me when I was sick or just needed some company. Every congregation is different. Generally, the love was not there in the org but there were always exceptions.

Surfrusty, you gave a definition of cognitive dissonance and then in your next post stated "But, only JW's suffer from CD? I believe there is alot of it flowing around here."
Again, I ask for instances where you believe this to be true. Where do you see cognitive dissonance on this board?
